Naples, Italy

Here we are on our cruise in Naples. That is Mt. Vesuvius in the background and Corsica off to the right. We will be here again in September, and Allen really wants to climb Mt. Vesuvius this time....

Our last foray into Naples was to get sheets for the toga party. The narrow streets and F*ing crazy scooter drivers make it a damn near death match crossing any intersection. The beep beep of moped horns echoes throughout the city, warning pedestrians to move over the 2" they have left to avoid being run down.

I mean CAN YOU IMAGINE....being run down by a scooter??? In Italy??? With bathsheets and cheap 10 Euro sunglasses you wear on your head like their a $1000 pair of Prada ones just because you got them at the Italian Outlet in Tuscany which is no different than being in New Jersey Factory Outlets except for the espresso bar and lack of baseball hats....That's like being an alcoholic at AA and saying Bartles and James wine coolers brought you down!!! LOLOL!!!

Am I tipsy from 8 days of drinking or is the Tower crooked..??.

Well, that didn't last long

SO, I thought just posting one picture a day would be easy, but I can't seem to even keep up with that...LOL! So, lets try for today...

July 7th, 2008. We were in Marseille, France. A beautiful shot of the colorful boats awaiting a ride out into the bay, and one of Allen and I enjoying a very warm sunny day in Provence....

A Thousand Words...

It seems as the time progresses, I have so much less to spend on me. Work has been all-consuming, and other duties have taken the rest of the little free time I get. I regret that I can't post each day, heck, each week for that matter.

I love the contact from people I know, and people I don't, that the blog world brings. So with that in mind, I have decided to do a post a day, from my personal albums. I hope to write a quick blurb or thought, and post one picture that brings back a memory to me from the past 35 years. (Of course - I will still do updates on the girls!)

Today, I start with a shot of me and my co-workers in Germany, from last year, about this time. It reminds me of the incredible challenge and accomplishment of learning another language and being able to function in it. A thousand words, it's at least what I learned in my time over there.....

The Girls are Growing and Growing and....

I took a few shots of the girls this morning while they avoided the rain outside by hanging out in the coop. I built a pen with a roosting post, so to speak, and they love to be outside perched atop it.

They are getting quite big, and many of their features are changing. Take a look at the pics. I have many more posted on facebook, but these are good examples of each kind.

The Polish Crested are by FAR the most curious and must always check out what you are up to. I am falling in love with them. Their plume on top is really coming in nicely. You can see a bit from the photo that the feathers in the middle are still underdeveloped, just sticks right now. Once they come in the head will fill out and they will look positively beautiful.

This is a photo of the Silkie, and the Rhode Island Red. The RRR had some very striking feather patterns when she was younger, but as Allen predicted, she has lost them. She is still very pretty, and will most likely be the best egg layer. Her name is Gretchen. Sofia is the Silkie..

Here is a good shot of Sophia. She is the Silkie, and is growing a bit slower in developing her characteristic coat of feathers. She looks a bit scraggly now, but when she is full grown, I expect her to be stunning. She may not fill out as much as I would like, but we'll see. She is the smallest of the bunch, and the most skiddish.

ahhh, the Silver Laced Wyandottes. You can really see in this photo how their pencil markings are coming in to play, not only on the chest but on the sides and back as well. They are also getting pretty big. I think they will be much larger than I anticipated, so maybe we will get some good eggs out of them. I think they will be gorgeous when they are fully grown.

A small group shot of the girls. They all seem to get along real well, but I have seen a few "top chicken" matches between the RRR and the Wyandottes. Research suggested that the Wyandottes would be top dog, but so far it's pretty equal. I have to keep my eye on them to make sure no one is picking on the others. I had that issue with my last chickens, and what happens is they end up plucking all the feathers from the neck of the one they pick on. We'll just wait and see.

We couldn't be more happy. And now that I found an fixed the two leaks in the coop, it is all set. I'll take some photos when I get it finished for good, and you can see how great it looks in the yard. The neighbors have even come over to check out the girls, they like to bring their grandkids to pet them.

That's it for now. Hope everyone is well.......Happy Thursday.....

Tickled PInk

Our new dining room set from Pottery Barn arrived this week and man oh man, it is beautiful! We are so happy with the look. It blends so well into the decor of the house, and after not having a real dining table for almost 3 years, it is great to have such a beauty. The table itself opens up to almost 100" inches if not more, plenty of room for about 10 guests. Allen bought two benches in the same rustic style as the table. They too are just perfect. One is at the foot of the bed and the other makes a nice living room piece.

We had a nice visit with some friends this evening and were lucky to bring home a fantastic bouquet of pink peonies, the perfect centerpiece for the new table.....

The coop is almost all finished and I will do some photos and post soon about the girls and their new home, They have settled in very nicely....

We also revamped the bar area......a very nice but very inexpensive bookcase from Ikea, layed on its side works brilliantly....
